Loving Jesus, You taught us that we can only enter the kingdom of God like a little child. You told the disciples to let the children come to You. Lord, we have failed to keep watch over the children of our communities, allowing children to be abused and neglected. We have failed to keep our promises to protect children and to keep their safety of utmost importance. We have looked the other way; we have assumed it was not our place to speak up; we have assured ourselves it is not our problem. God, open our eyes to the cries of Your children who are neglected and abused, bullied and teased. Guide our legislators to craft laws that protect the safety of all Your children. Give us wisdom to ask questions and to responsibly seek the safety and well-being of children in our community and beyond. Help us to be a loving community, a family of faith, for children who need loving mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers in Christ to share Your love and concern. Help us to look beyond our comfort zone to do our part to seek out the lost and the least among us. Help us to seek You as a child, and with childlike hope and faith, may we courageously stand for love and justice for children around our world. In Your precious name we pray. Amen.
